Kevin Flynn

Kevin Flynn made his mark at Riverview High School both as a teacher and as an administrator from 1968 until his retirement in 2000 and truly deserves the

Legacy award. During his tenure at RHS, Kevin touched the lives of both his

students and his colleagues in so many positive ways.

Kevin Flynn's work with his students in his Problems in American Democracy

classes (PAD) won him kudos and admiration from the hundreds of students

who sat before him for 16 years. His areas of expertise included world history,

economics, and political science. He also threw in leadership training and

sponsored the Student Government program, as well as assigning student

projects that became an outreach into the community. His students flocked back to touch base with him during and after college. They loved being in his classes, exploring problems and resolutions in American democracy, and learning to become citizens of the world. Kevin continued with his teaching skills in the summer school program for ten

years and served two years as the summer school principal.

In addition to his teaching duties, Kevin served as chairman of the School Advisory Committee After he became one of Sarasota County's Teachers of the Year in the 1980s, Kevin moved into the Administrative side of running a school. Kevin served ten years as assistant principal under then principal Ed Brown. From 1994 until 2000, Kevin was principal at RHS, was in charge of the P.E.E.R. Program, and was the coordinator of the School-based Management Committee.

During his time at Riverview, he was the school's liaison for the Southern Association team for three different decades. He also coordinated the 5-year construction of the WAVES I, Il, and IlI from 1984-1989. The Renaissance and IB programs were also initiated while Kevin was principal.

Kevin Flynn definitely left his positive footprint on the Riverview campus from 1968 until 2000 when he retired. He will long be remembered.
