Mr. Al Baker began his teaching and coaching career at Booker High School in 1953. His legendry 1967 basketball team is one of the best teams in the history of high school basketball. It featured All American Howard Porter who averaged 37 points and 20 rebounds per game. This outstanding team that averaged over 100 points per game was inducted into the Florida Basketball hall of Fame.

In 1967 Mr. Baker came to Riverview High School and was the boys’ basketball coach from 1968 to 1973.  He also was on the physical education staff.  He was an outstanding educator/coach, a difference maker and a team builder for those students/athletes with whom he worked.
