Ceremony - Cheryl Morey Stanzione and  John D. Dumbaugh - Class of 1967

Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Sarasota Garden Club: As Chair of the Riverview High School Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame Board, it is my honor to announce that the two official inductees from the Class of 1967 are Cheryl Morey Stanzione and John D. Dumbaugh.
     First, a few words about Cheryl. After achieving an Associates of Arts Degree from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, Cheryl continued her education and graduated from The New York School of Interior Design.  As a professional interior designer, Cheryl is the head of Stanzione Associates of Sarasota. Since the mid-1970’s, Cheryl has specialized in the senior housing industry.  Having completed dozens of projects in 23 states, Cheryl is always in demand to serve on committees and councils that support the industry, and is a highly regarded speaker.  For example: Her senior housing interior designs have been recognized by Contemporary Long Term Care Magazine for four consecutive years. She as been Awarded the prestigious “Best of Senior Housing Award” from The National Council on Seniors Housing - a division of the National Association of Home Builders. Her designs have been spotlighted in educational seminars at Harvard University. She has been asked to be a guest speaker at seminars held in locations such as Colorado Springs, Phoenix, New York City, and Ft. Lauderdale.
     Throughout the years, Cheryl never lost sight of the importance of giving back to her community. She continues to believe that volunteerism is priceless, because it is a gift given freely. Currently, Cheryl is an approved volunteer for Tidwell Hospice. Additionally, she attained approval as a volunteer to sit vigil for patients.

 

     The second Hall of Fame recipient to be honored tonight from the Class of 1967 is John D. Dumbaugh. John has been a partner with Syprett, Meshad, Resnick & Lieb since 1984, after joining the firm in 1974. He is a board-certified attorney, recognized as an expert in the field of real estate by The Florida Bar for 30 years of continuous certification. John obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, in Political Science and Economics, with a minor degree in German, from the University of Pittsburgh in 1971. He earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Florida in 1974.
     As an attorney, John’s professional achievements are many…most notably…  qualifying as a Board Certified Specialist. To receive that certification, lawyers must maintained The Florida Bar’s highest standards for special knowledge, skills and proficiency in various areas of law and professionalism and ethics in the practice of law. Only seven percent of eligible Florida Bar members have earned that title. A title John has maintain every year for over three decades.
     In 2000, John was certified as fluent in the German language through the "German for Law Professionals" program at the Goethe Institute, Bonn, Germany. With this certification, John has served as a referral attorney to the German Consulates in Miami and Atlanta. In 2000, John received the President’s Pro Bono Service Award from The Florida Bar, in recognition of his pro bono service to the community. In 2013, he was honored with the Legacy Award by Habitat for Humanity Sarasota, in recognition of his 20-plus years of service to the organization. John’s volunteerism in our community extends to the Sarasota Power and Sail Squadron, the Sarasota Mental Health Association, Sarasota United Cerebral Palsy, and Siesta Key Actor’s Theatre.
